Israel hands over Gaza

Sept. 11 (Bloomberg) -- Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's cabinet voted unanimously to end the nation's 38-year military rule of the Gaza Strip, paving the way for Israel to hand control of Gaza to the Palestinian Authority at a ceremony later today.

The U.S. has said it expects Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and four Jewish settlements on the West Bank to lead to a resumption of peace talks based on a step-by-step plan for establishing a Palestinian state called the ``road map.''

Well, sure peace talks probably will resume, after all the Palestinians have gotten what they want. They'll start talking peace now to gain political aid and friendships, and in an attempt to look less intolerant.
